The correct and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment is part of the core knowledge that all health and social care workers need to ensure that transmission of infection between themselves and patients/clients is prevented. This training package gives nurse educators, link nurses, team leaders and all those involved in boosting knowledge and skills amongst their staff and colleagues an easy-to-use, evidence-based programme that delivers long-lasting knowledge that is transferred to the workplace.
Key learning outcomes for those completing the full training session are to:
demonstrate a greater awareness of the potential risks infectious patients pose to healthcare workers
understand the responsibilities of healthcare workers in reducing the risk of transmission of infection between patients
use risk assessment to select and to use the appropriate personal protective equipment
safely wear, remove and discard personal protective equipment.
The materials are all designed to be printed, and some are customisable to reflect local issues. There are session plans for a full 3.5 hour training session, for a quick boost one-hour session, or a short refresher of 10 to 15 minutes. Extensive guidance is provided around both using the materials and enhancing the learning experience.
